🏢 AI Model Providers — Editor's Guide
The AI model market moves fast: providers release new models, pricing changes weekly, and "best model" depends on your workload. Use this page to quickly short-list providers before you compare specific models.
OpenAI is the general-purpose default with strong multimodal options. Anthropic is a favorite for code and long-form writing. Google often wins on cost-performance (especially Flash tiers). DeepSeek is known for aggressive pricing and strong reasoning at low cost. Meta (Llama) is the go-to for open-weight, self-hostable deployments. Qwen is a strong multilingual option, especially for Chinese + English mixed workloads.
When choosing a provider, evaluate: (1) task fit (coding vs. multimodal vs. reasoning), (2) budget (real per-request cost), and (3) deployment constraints (managed API vs. self-host).
💡 Tip: many providers are OpenAI-compatible, so switching is often just a base URL change. Pricing strategies vary a lot—use the Pricing calculator to estimate real spend.
